The Crack / the glitch

It’s a familiar shape that is seen in so many different assets of nature. Its the shape and form of growth and decay in nature . Where it resembles the key element of life’s preservationcycle it self.

The cracks are as a symbol to me of transition. Out with the old and onto something new.
It comes to show as a imperfection in man created objects that slowly start to transform/deteriorate (painted walls starting to show the first signs of time and the powers of nature that are tearing them down). Often we fight these processes of aging materials but I think we should focus at its beauty.

With this perspective, I started to enjoy all these shapes and forms of transition. I started to see and collect many different examples of the same sorts of shape. I started to collect distractions abnormalities and imperfections and they all seemed to have some sort of resemblance. Some sort of intrinsic beauty. A shape to them that would never be ugly. Most shapes seem to be totally coincidental and chaotic though when looking and thinking longer about it there seems to be logic behind it. I wanted to show their intrinsic beauty by copying/recreating the same style/language in how they seem to be formed.

On its own, abstracted from the process of transition, the images of my inspiration often reminded me of landscapes of other worlds. When I started to make drawings using the same language/style to create the lines, viewers often confronted me with their imagination very much like when 2 people would be lying in a field looking at the clouds telling one another what they looked like to them. Shapes look like they resemble forms and creatures from nature while I never tried to do so.

With that being the way it is, it seems as if the drawings are capable to distract us from its true form to transfer us into a new perception. The shapes are abstract tough they resemble the same shapes as one would find in nature and people tend to always want to find some intended shape in it. I really enjoy to let the viewer use its own imagination and I hope it will trigger them to do so in their own lives.

The cracks in the wall start to work as a portal/moment in which the viewer can be triggered to look further than the indoctrinated vision of society. The crack no longer is a damage to its object but a thing of beauty guiding us to wander of in our imaginations. Its like the boundary of reality is starting to decay and show its glitch. Setting free of the shackles of this world and allowing autonome development of perception to kick in.
